On June 7, 1916, after the death of Yuan Shikai, Vice President Li Yuanhong succeeded as President according to the law. During his term, he restored the 'Provisional Constitution of the Republic of China' and the Parliament, but was soon forced to step down due to the 'Man-Yuan conflict' and the Manchu Restoration attempt.
