On August 6, 1945, in the final stages of WWII, the US Army Air Forces dropped the atomic bomb 'Little Boy' on Hiroshima, Japan. This was the first time nuclear weapons were used in warfare in human history, causing tens of thousands of instantaneous deaths and many more from radiation in the following months. The attack aimed to force a rapid Japanese surrender.
