On the night of July 31, 2014, a series of massive gas explosions occurred in the Cianjin and Lingya districts of Kaohsiung City. Propene leaking from underground pipelines ignited, tearing through several kilometers of main roads and causing 32 deaths and 321 injuries. The disaster exposed long-term management failures in underground industrial pipelines and led to a comprehensive review of urban safety and chemical infrastructure across Taiwan.
