Executive Yuan Central Joint Services Center Posts 'Suspension of Operations' Notice; Deputy Director Wu Yin-ning Criticized for Political Showmanship and Intimidating the Public

On February 4, 2025, the Central Joint Services Center of the Executive Yuan of the Republic of China posted a notice at its entrance claiming that its services might be delayed or suspended due to a 99% budget cut by the Legislature, leaving only about NT$70,000 for the fiscal year. Wu Yin-ning, the Deputy Executive Director of the center, then posted a photo of the notice on social media, naming and criticizing Kuomintang (KMT) legislators from central Taiwan, claiming the cuts would stop civil servants from working. This sparked intense public backlash and political sparring. Critics and online communities quickly exposed that jointly housed government units in the same building, such as the Bureau of Consular Affairs' central office, were fully operational and packed with citizens. Critics lambasted the center for creating a fake shutdown to run a political show and intimidate the public. Opposition lawmakers and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) caucus officials criticized the center as a 'sinecure retreat' for political appointees, arguing that instead of reflecting on its high operational costs and structural redundancy, Wu chose to intimidate the public to avoid parliamentary oversight. This event triggered heated debates in the Republic of China over the necessity of regional joint service centers, budget scrutiny, and the political integrity of government officials.
