Fire Breaks Out at Taichung Tongchang Cold-Chain Logistics Center in Early Morning Hours; Approximately 145 Ping of Warehouse Damaged, No Casualties

In the early hours of April 21, 2026, a fire broke out at the Tongchang Marketing Company cold-chain logistics center, a subsidiary of Uni-President Enterprises, located on Industrial Zone Third Road in Xitun District, Taichung. The Taichung City Fire Bureau received the alert at 1:18 a.m. The fire is believed to have originated in the mezzanine above the second-floor freezer warehouse, where flammable foam board insulation caused rapid spread. Approximately 145 ping (about 480 m²) of the facility was damaged, with preliminary financial losses estimated at NT$1 million. Fortunately, all workers had already evacuated safely, and there were no casualties. The Fire Bureau dispatched eight units, more than 20 fire trucks, and over 40 firefighters. The fire was brought under control by 3:10 a.m. Smoldering in the freezer mezzanine continued into the morning, requiring extended firefighting operations to prevent re-ignition. The Environmental Protection Bureau monitored air quality on-site and advised nearby residents to take protective measures. The incident disrupted some cold-chain delivery services temporarily. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Bureau's investigation unit, with arson preliminarily ruled out.
