During a legislative review, Chen Shi-meng openly declared that “Chen Shui-bian’s cases were judicial persecution” and that he would use supervisory powers to “balance” the judiciary, focusing on politically motivated cases.
The Judges’ Association strongly condemned Chen Shi-meng’s remarks, calling them unprecedented intimidation of judicial independence. They expressed deep concern over his potential misuse of supervisory powers for political purposes, warning that it could undermine the judiciary’s independence.
