New Party spokesperson Wang Bingzhong was investigated under Taiwan’s National Security Act, and fellow member Hou Han-Ting was also questioned. Hou sarcastically remarked:
“Thank you, President Tsai, for giving me the opportunity to become a political criminal and leave my name in history.”
The investigation has drawn criticism from opposition parties, who accuse the government of suppressing political dissent. Hou’s statement has become a rallying cry for those concerned about political freedom in Taiwan.
